The hermes agent plugins marketplace is the Plugin Catalog from Nous Research: one place where you browse, filter and install add-ons for Hermes Agent, either from the docs site or straight from Hermes Desktop. Nobody at Nous calls it a "marketplace". The official name is the Plugin Catalog. But that's what most people type into Google, so that's what this guide covers.

Here's the short version. You open the catalog, find a plugin, click "Open in Hermes Desktop", check the review dialog, and hit Install. That's it. No terminal, no cloning repos, no editing config files. When I tried it on camera I installed a plugin in one click, and honestly it's about 10 times easier than the old terminal and GitHub route.
Below I'll walk you through where to find it, how to browse it, a full one-click install using Newswire, the CLI and Install-from-Git alternatives, a few plugins worth trying, and the safety check you should do before you install anything.
If you want step-by-step Hermes and AI agent courses, plus the Agent OS setup I use every day, that's all inside the AI Profit Boardroom for $69/mo.
What Is the Hermes Agent Plugins Marketplace?
It's a catalog of plugins that extend what Hermes Agent and Hermes Desktop can do. Some add new screens and widgets to the desktop app. Some give the agent new tools. Some do both.
Teknium from Nous Research announced it. At launch it had 4 official plugins and 96 community ones. By the time I recorded my video ("Hermes Agent Just Got 500 FREE Plugins", 5 October 2026), it was showing roughly 500 community-built plugins. That number moves fast, so expect it to be different when you look.
The key point: most of these are built by the community, not by Nous. That's what makes it big. It's also why the safety section further down matters.
Where to Find the Plugin Catalog
There are two doors into the same catalog:
- The docs site: hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/plugins
- Inside Hermes Desktop: Capabilities → Plugins
If you don't have the desktop app yet, start with my Hermes Desktop app guide. The one-click install flow needs it, and it's the easiest way to run Hermes in general.

How to Browse: Filters and Sort
The catalog gives you a few simple controls so you're not scrolling through 500 cards blind.
Filters
- All shows everything.
- Official shows only the plugins from Nous Research.
- Community shows plugins built by other people.
- Categories narrow it down by type, like platforms, voice, search or browser automation.
Sort
- Most starred is a decent popularity signal. When I'm choosing between similar plugins, I go with the most-starred one.
- Newest shows what just landed.
- Recently updated shows what's actively maintained. A plugin nobody has touched in months is a weaker bet.
My approach is simple. Filter by the category you care about, sort by most starred, then open the top two or three and read their repos.
One-Click Install Walkthrough (Using Newswire)
Hermes Newswire (by tony-simons-aiowa) is a good first plugin. It puts a scrolling news ticker above the status bar in Hermes Desktop. It handles RSS, Atom and JSON Feed, has feed search and discovery, an offline cache and in-app reading. It needs no API keys and uses no LLM tokens for routine use. At the time of writing it's at v0.1.0.
Here's exactly what I did:
- Find Newswire in the catalog and click Open in Hermes Desktop on its card.
- Your browser asks to open the app. Click Open Hermes. Under the hood that button is a hermes:// link.
- Hermes Desktop shows a review dialog. This lists the repository, the pinned commit and the target profile. Read it.
- Pick where the desktop UI should go and which profile gets it.
- Click Install.
Then I set it up. I added the topic "Hermes agent" and searched for release notes as a source. After that, the news strip scrolls along the bottom of my chats. There are settings to toggle it, change the speed between fast and slow, and pause it.
Small thing, but it's handy. You see new Hermes releases while you work without opening another tab.
Desktop half vs agent half
Some plugins have two parts, and they behave differently:
- Desktop half: the toggle applies across all your profiles, and it doesn't need a restart.
- Agent half: this is set per profile. When the pinned commit moves forward, you'll see an Update option.
So if a plugin works in one profile but not another, check whether you installed the agent half on the profile you're actually using.

Alternative 1: Install With the CLI
If you live in the terminal, you can skip the catalog buttons. The commands are:
- hermes plugins install hermes-newswire
- hermes plugins remove hermes-newswire
Swap in the plugin name you want. It does the same job, just without the review dialog in front of you, so make sure you've already looked at the repo.
Alternative 2: Install From Git
Found a plugin on GitHub that isn't in the catalog? Use Install from Git and paste any repository URL. You can optionally pin a 40-character commit, which locks you to that exact version so nothing changes under you without you knowing.
This is powerful, but it's also where you're on your own. Catalog entries get human review plus SHA pinning. A random git install gets neither. More on that below.
Plugins Worth Trying
You don't need all 500. Pick what you'll actually use. Here are the ones that stood out to me.
| Plugin | What it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Hermes Newswire | Scrolling RSS/Atom/JSON-Feed news ticker, feed discovery, offline cache, in-app reading, no API keys | Community (tony-simons-aiowa) |
| Hermes Tailscale | Browse your Tailscale devices and connect to remote Hermes instances from Hermes Desktop | Community (Adolanium) |
| Hermes Office / Hermes Office 2 | Gives your agents a visual office | Community |
| Hermes Speech, Hermes Talk, Hermes Live Voice | Voice plugins for talking to your agent | Community |
| Brave Search, Ollama Cloud web search | Web search for your agent | Community |
| Platform plugins (WhatsApp, a Minecraft gateway) | Connect Hermes to other platforms | Community |
| Job search plugin | Hyper-personalised job search | Community |
A few notes on these.
Voice: there are several voice plugins. Install one, not all three. I'd pick whichever is most starred when you look. If voice is your main interest, my Hermes voice agent guide goes deeper.
Web and browser automation: there's a whole category here. Brave Search and Ollama Cloud web search are the obvious starting points if your agent needs to look things up.
Tailscale: great if you run Hermes on more than one machine and want to reach them all from one desktop app.

The Safety Check Before You Install
This is the part people skip, and it's the part that matters most.
The Nous docs are clear: plugins are NOT sandboxed. They run with full app authority. The docs put it plainly: "Only load files you wrote or reviewed."
Anyone can build a plugin. That's great for variety and not great for trust. So here's my rule:
- Open the plugin's GitHub repo. Every catalog card points to one.
- Read the README. What does it do? What does it access? Does it need keys?
- Check activity. Stars, recent updates, open issues. A busy, recently updated repo is a better sign than a dead one.
- Read the review dialog. Confirm the repository, pinned commit and target profile match what you expect.
- Be extra careful with Install from Git. Catalog entries get human review plus SHA pinning. Arbitrary git installs are on you.
And don't install everything just because it's free. Every plugin is more code running with full authority. Fewer, well-chosen plugins beat a pile you never use.
How This Fits Into a Bigger Agent Setup
Plugins make Hermes nicer to use day to day. But the real gains come from how you wire your agents together: which model, which profile, which jobs.
I run all of that through my Agent OS. If you want the full picture of how I set it up, read the Agent OS guide. And if you're comparing models to run behind Hermes, I test them on Goldie Bench so you can see how they hold up on real tasks.

FAQ
Is there a Hermes Agent plugin marketplace?
Yes, but it's officially called the Plugin Catalog. You'll find it at hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/plugins and inside Hermes Desktop under Capabilities → Plugins. It has official plugins from Nous Research plus a large set of community-built ones, about 500 when I recorded my video.
Are Hermes plugins free?
The plugins I've shown here are free to install from the catalog. Some may connect to outside services that have their own costs or need their own keys, so check each plugin's README. Newswire, for example, needs no API keys and uses no LLM tokens for routine use.
Are Hermes plugins safe?
Not automatically. Per the Nous docs, plugins are not sandboxed and run with full app authority. Catalog entries get human review and SHA pinning, which helps, but you should still read each plugin's GitHub repo and README before installing. Arbitrary Install-from-Git plugins have no review at all.
How do I remove a Hermes plugin?
Use the CLI command hermes plugins remove followed by the plugin name, for example hermes plugins remove hermes-newswire. You can also toggle a plugin's desktop half off inside Hermes Desktop without a restart.
