Hermes Meshy is the official Nous Research plugin that lets Hermes Agent make 3D models with Meshy. You type what you want in chat, Hermes calls Meshy, and you get a model back you can spin around, texture, rig, animate, convert or prep for a 3D printer.

It lives in the Nous Research hermes-official-plugins repo on GitHub, in the meshy folder. The first commit landed on 19 October 2026 and it was updated on 22 October 2026. I made a video on it the same day.
This guide covers what it does, how to install it, what to ask, all 28 tools, how credits work, the Hermes Desktop extras, and the one thing that catches people out: your files expire.
What Hermes Meshy actually does
Meshy is a 3D generation service. The plugin connects Hermes to it so the agent can do the work for you. Here's the list straight from the plugin:
- Text to 3D and image to 3D
- Texturing and retexturing
- Remeshing
- Rigging and animation
- Format conversion
- Resizing to real-world sizes
- UV unwrapping
- 2D concept images
- 3D-print prep: printability checks and repair, multicolor 3MF, splitting into printable parts, slicer handoff and Creative Lab products
Under the hood it ships Meshy's own first-party MCP server (meshy-dev/meshy-mcp-server, MIT licence), pinned at version 0.6.5. Version bumps get reviewed before they ship, so the server doesn't change on you overnight.
It also ships a skill called meshy-3d. That skill teaches Hermes the house rules: confirm costs before spending, never re-create a task it isn't sure about, and pick the output format first.
If you want to learn Hermes properly, with courses, daily updates, the Agent OS zip and 4 coaching calls a week, that's what we do inside the AI Profit Boardroom ($69/mo).
How to install it
Two commands:
- hermes plugins install meshy
- hermes plugins enable meshy
Then add your API key. You can do it in Hermes Desktop under Settings, then Plugins, then Meshy. Or from the terminal: hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_<your-key>
Two things you need first:
- A Meshy Pro plan or above. You get the key from meshy.ai under Settings, then API. API keys need Pro or higher.
- Node.js 18 or newer with npx. The MCP server runs through it.
Honestly, the easiest way is to ask your agent: "Install the Meshy plugin, enable it and tell me where to paste my API key." Let Hermes do the setup.
What you can ask it
You talk to it like normal. Two examples from the plugin itself:
"Make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot."
"Turn ~/photos/mug.jpg into a 3D model and get it ready to print at 10 cm."
Look at the second one. That's a photo to a model to the right size to print prep, in one sentence. Hermes chains the steps for you.
Other things worth trying: make a character and rig it, give it a walk animation, retexture a model in a different style, convert a file to STL for printing, or make a 2D concept image first and then turn it into 3D.

All 28 tools, in groups
The plugin adds 28 tools. Together their schemas are about 19K tokens, which is a lot. So they're loaded on demand through tool search. They cost nothing in your prompt until Hermes actually needs them.
| Group | Tools | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Generation | Text to 3D, refine, image to 3D, multi-image to 3D, text to image, image to image | Making new models and concept images from words or pictures |
| Post-processing | Remesh, retexture, convert, resize, UV unwrap | Cleaning up and changing a model you already have |
| Characters | Rig, animate, text to motion, list animations | Giving a character a skeleton and making it move |
| Printing | Analyze printability, repair printability, process multicolor, auto split, send to slicer, Creative Lab | Getting a model ready for a real 3D printer |
| Tasks and account | Get task status, list tasks, list models, download model, cancel task, check balance, list usage | Tracking jobs, grabbing files and watching your credits |
If you're picking which plugins to run, I rank the field in my best Hermes agent plugins breakdown.
Credits and approvals
Meshy runs on credits. Each call costs between 5 and 62 credits depending on what it is.
So the plugin is careful with your money:
- Hermes asks before every write-capable call. You get Allow once, Allow for this session, or Deny.
- Read-only tools run without prompts. Checking your balance, usage, task status and lists, the animation library and slicer detection don't ask.
- 200-credit spend limit per chat. Go past it and Hermes asks again, even if you've skipped prompts.
- Cron runs are refused. Unattended runs can't approve anything, so paid calls get refused there.
That last one matters. You can't schedule Hermes to spit out 50 models overnight and wake up to a big bill. Somebody has to say yes.

The Hermes Desktop extras
If you use the Hermes Desktop app, Meshy gets a proper visual layer.
Inline 3D cards
Models show up right in the chat as 3D cards. You can orbit, zoom, turn on wireframe and show a grid. While a job runs you see progress like "Meshy 38% · previewing".
Download menu
Every card has a download menu. It lists each file type Meshy produced for that task. For a refined model that's GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL and USDZ. Downloading formats that already exist costs no credits. If the format you want is missing, Convert makes it, and that does cost credits.
Meshy 3D gallery and "Made from"
There's a Meshy 3D gallery with a "Made from" panel. It shows the prompt, the settings, the seed, the credits, the chain of steps that built the model, and an Open chat button to jump back to the conversation.
That's handy. Months later you can see exactly how a model was made and make another one like it.
Credit chip
Your credit balance sits in the status bar, so you always know what you've got left.
Download your files: the 3-day expiry
This is the bit people miss. Meshy assets normally expire after three days.
If you want to keep a model, download it. Don't treat Meshy as storage. Make the model, grab the formats you need, save them somewhere you control.
Simple fix: tell Hermes "download every model we make to my projects folder as GLB and STL." Then it's handled.
A 3D-printing workflow that works
The printing tools are where this gets fun. Here's the flow:
- Make it. Text to 3D or image to 3D from a photo.
- Size it. Resize to a real-world size, like 10 cm.
- Check it. Analyze printability looks for problems.
- Fix it. Repair printability sorts what it finds.
- Split or colour it. Auto split breaks big models into printable parts. Process multicolor makes a multicolor 3MF.
- Print it. Send to slicer hands it off to your slicer.
You can say the whole thing in one message and approve each paid step as it comes. That's the mug example from earlier.
If you also want Hermes clicking around your desktop apps, like a slicer, check out the Hermes computer use skill. And if you want risky work moved off your own machine, Hermes Cua runs it in a separate box. For a different take on AI and 3D, see my post on Hermes3D.
Privacy
Your prompts, images and models go to api.meshy.ai under your own key. The MCP server only gets one thing from Hermes: MESHY_API_KEY. Nothing else.
So if you're working on client stuff, know that it goes to Meshy. Same as using Meshy directly.
Is it worth setting up?
If you make anything 3D, yes. Game assets, product mockups, print files, animated characters. Hermes does the clicking and chaining, you just say what you want and approve the spend.
I run Hermes every day inside my Agent OS. If you want that setup, start with my Agent OS guide. And if you want to see how different models handle agent work, I test them in Goldie Bench.

FAQ
Do I need a paid Meshy plan for Hermes Meshy?
Yes. API keys need a Meshy Pro plan or above. You get the key from meshy.ai under Settings, then API.
How much does each call cost?
Between 5 and 62 credits per call. Hermes asks before every paid call, and there's a 200-credit spend limit per chat before it asks again.
Can I run Meshy jobs on a schedule?
No paid ones. Unattended runs like cron can't approve calls, so paid calls get refused there. Read-only tools still work.
How long are my models kept?
Meshy assets normally expire after three days. Download the formats you need to keep them. If you want help building a 3D workflow around this, book a free AI strategy session.
