To use Grok Bot Slack, publish a Bot as a Team Bot, add it to your workspace with Add to Slack, then link your own Slack account under Settings, General, Team Bots. After that your team can mention the Bot in any channel it has joined, and it replies in the thread.

Team Bots arrived in v0.61.0 on 26 September 2026, and xAI has shipped Slack changes in almost every release since. This guide covers setup, how drafts and approvals work, routines in Slack, the privacy rules, and what changed in the last few weeks. All version dates come from the official changelog at x.ai/changelog/bot.
What Grok Bot Slack does
Grok Bot is xAI's team of AI agents, in public beta since 11 August 2026. xAI has operated as SpaceX AI since the July merger. A Team Bot is one Bot you publish for the whole team. Teammates chat with it in the Grok Bot app or in Slack, and each person gets their own conversation.
Per the v0.61.0 notes, in Slack a Team Bot can:
- Reply in threads.
- Read channels it has joined.
- Answer workflow mentions.
- Start new posts.
- Keep links, code and tables intact.
Each teammate's use counts against their own allowance, and the Bot keeps private notes per person. So one Team Bot can serve the whole company without mixing up who asked for what.
If you want to run agents like this across your own business, the AI Profit Boardroom ($69/mo) includes the Agent OS, a 30-day AI agent roadmap, daily tutorials as new tools drop, weekly coaching calls and the prompt library.
How to set up Grok Bot in Slack
- Publish a Team Bot. Take a Bot you've set up and publish it to your team. Owners can edit its name, description, plugins, secrets, skills, files and Slack app, and Unpublish removes it.
- Add it to Slack. Use the Add to Slack dialog. Since v0.62.0 that dialog handles workspace admin approval, so if your Slack needs an admin to approve apps, the request goes through from there.
- Link your Slack account. Go to Settings, General, Team Bots and link your account. This is what lets the Bot use your own connectors and memory when you ask it something.
- Invite it to channels. The Bot reads only channels it has joined.
- Add Managers if you need help running it. Since v0.64.0 the creator can add Managers.
The dashboard Setup Checklist also includes Slack or Microsoft Teams as a step (v0.55.0), so new teams see it on day one. More on team setup is in Grok Bot teams.

Drafts vs direct sends
By default the Bot does not just fire off messages. In v0.45.0 on 8 September, xAI let the Bot write an email or Slack message as a draft you can Send or Discard. In v0.64.0 on 30 September, xAI added "Disable drafts for this Bot" for anyone who wants it to send directly.
Drafts got better in v0.77.0 on 26 October. Slack drafts now show a formatted preview and who gets notified, so you see the @mentions before anything goes out.
Keep drafts on for anything customer-facing. Turn them off only for low-risk internal updates.
Approval cards in threads
Some actions need your OK. In v0.63.0 on 29 September, xAI made a Bot needing approval in a Slack thread post a "Review an action" card that only you can answer. Nobody else in the channel can click it for you.
In v0.75.5 on 23 October, sends started going out once Auto-review allows, and Bots began recording who asked for each message they post. In v0.77.0, auto-review approval cards stay open for 30 minutes.

Routines in Slack
Routines are jobs that run on a schedule or a trigger. Since v0.61.0 you can ask a Team Bot in Slack to set up, change, pause or delete your routines, without opening the app.
- v0.75.2 (22 October): Team Bot owners can let collaborators create routines.
- v0.75.5 (23 October): a Team Bot follows threads its routine replied in, without needing an @mention.
- v0.75.8 (24 October): Bot posts to Slack from a routine don't notify your phone.
- v0.77.0 (26 October): Slack routines that listen for messages can see images.
- v0.78.1 (27 October): if a Team Bot routine needs your connector, it asks in the Slack thread and tags you.
A good first routine: a daily summary of a busy channel posted at 9am. More ideas are in Grok Bot routines.
Privacy rules for unlinked people
A Team Bot sits in shared channels, so xAI has added guardrails.
- Since v0.77.0, people without a linked account can't use the owner's logins or private data.
- In shared conversations, the Bot checks each post against who can read it.
- Linked teammates use their own connectors and memory, not the owner's.
- Since v0.78.1, unlinked people are told that some features are limited and how to link.
- Since v0.68.1 (7 October), @here and @channel still don't ping, and the Bot stays quiet on untagged replies that don't need it.
The short version: link your account, or the Bot treats you as a guest.

Recent changes worth knowing
The last week of October brought the biggest batch.
- v0.75.2: ask the Bot in Slack to investigate or research something and you get a researched answer, not a quick guess.
- v0.77.0: the Bot checks what a reply answers before acting. Team Bots can edit their own messages and remove reactions, and tables copy cleanly into Slack. You can DM a Team Bot to message other Team Bots.
- v0.78.1: Team Bots search Slack when asked, and Remove from Slack disconnects it in one step.
Since v0.63.0 you can also ask a Team Bot in Slack to message one of your own Bots, so a Slack request can start work on a personal Bot with your private connectors.
Is Grok Bot the right Slack agent for you?
It fits teams that already live in Slack and want one shared agent with clear approvals. It is less of a fit if you want to own the stack. Hermes Agent is open source, runs any model and works in Slack too. The setup is in the Agent OS guide, and the head-to-head is in Grok Bot vs Hermes. FAQ
Do I need a Team Bot to use Grok Bot in Slack?
Yes. Slack threads, channels and workflow mentions all run through Team Bots, which launched in v0.61.0 on 26 September 2026.
Can Grok Bot send Slack messages without asking?
Only if you turn off drafts with "Disable drafts for this Bot" (v0.64.0). Otherwise it writes a draft you Send or Discard, and actions that need approval post a "Review an action" card.
Can teammates use my connected apps through the Bot?
No. Since v0.77.0, people without a linked account can't use the owner's logins or private data. Linked teammates use their own connectors and memory.
How do I remove Grok Bot from Slack?
Use Remove from Slack, added in v0.78.1, which disconnects Slack. Owners can also Unpublish the Team Bot. For help building a team agent setup, join the AI Profit Boardroom or grab a free AI strategy session.
