Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork in one paragraph
Grok Bot gives you "Bots": AI teammates with names, jobs and memory. Your Bots work on one shared persistent cloud computer with a browser, a filesystem and a terminal. Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agent mode inside the Claude app. Anthropic's help center says it "uses the same agentic architecture that powers Claude Code, with no terminal required." You describe an outcome, Claude plans it, splits it into subtasks, and hands back finished files.

What Grok Bot does well
Grok Bot is built around persistent workers. The xAI docs list five things that set it apart:
- Bots have a computer. All your Bots share one persistent cloud computer, each with its own screen. Bots use connected apps where they exist and computer use for everything else. Work continues while your laptop is closed.
- Bots coordinate. They can run in parallel, message each other, share context in group chats, and hand off tasks.
- Bots learn from demonstration. You walk a Bot through a browser workflow once, it saves it as a skill, and a routine can rerun it on a schedule.
- Context compounds. A named Bot keeps its memory, files, browser sessions and preferences across sessions.
Routines can fire on a schedule or on events: a Slack message, a GitHub, Linear, Sentry or PagerDuty event, an email, or a webhook. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iPhone and Android, and you can reach Bots in X Chat, by tagging @bot on X, or in Slack.
Logins go through Vault, a connected password manager or a Secure Form, and the docs say the Bot never sees the password. For more on that side, read Grok Bot computer use.
One thing to know: you cannot pick the model. The FAQ says Grok Bot picks the backend model for each task, which can be a first-party model or a third-party one from its sub-processor list.

What Claude Cowork does well
Claude Cowork is built around finished deliverables. Anthropic's help center lists these key capabilities:
- Professional outputs. Excel spreadsheets with working formulas, PowerPoint decks and formatted documents.
- Sub-agent coordination. Claude breaks complex work into smaller tasks and runs parallel workstreams.
- Cloud sessions. Work runs in an isolated environment on Anthropic's servers and continues when you close your laptop. Since 6 October 2026, new Cowork tasks on Pro, Max and Ultra run in the cloud.
- Local file access on desktop. Claude reads and writes the folders you connect, through the Claude Desktop app.
- Scheduled tasks and projects. Type /schedule to make a recurring task, and group related tasks into projects with their own files, instructions and memory.
- Shared memory with chat. What Claude learns in Cowork carries back to chat.
Cowork picks the most precise tool first: a connector such as Gmail, Google Drive, Microsoft 365 or Slack, then the browser, then screen control. Computer use is in beta on Pro, Max and Ultra, in the desktop app on macOS and Windows. Anthropic says Team and Enterprise plans don't have computer use yet.
Cowork also gives you three permission modes. Manual asks before actions. Auto lets Claude keep working while it reviews each action for safety, such as data exfiltration or prompt injection. Skip asks nothing. To see how Claude carries context between tasks, read Claude Cowork memory.

Where Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork really differ
Workers versus tasks
Grok Bot asks you to hire a Bot and give it a job, like "sales outbound" or "expense manager". The Bot keeps that role. Cowork asks you to describe a task. Projects give tasks a shared home, but the unit of work is the task, not a named worker.
One shared computer versus isolated sessions
Every Grok Bot on your account shares one cloud computer, with its files, browser sessions and logins. That makes handoffs easy. The docs also warn you not to use separate Bots as a security boundary. Cowork runs each session in an isolated environment and reaches only the folders you connect.
Event triggers
Grok Bot routines can start from Slack messages, GitHub or Linear events, emails and webhooks. Cowork's help center describes scheduled tasks that run on a cadence you choose. If a job needs to react the moment something happens, Grok Bot has more triggers listed in its docs.
Office files
Anthropic calls out Excel files with working VLOOKUP and multiple tabs, and slide decks built from rough notes. If the end product is a spreadsheet or a deck, Cowork is the more direct route.
Who should pick Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork
Pick Grok Bot if:
- You want several AI workers with clear roles that pass work to each other.
- Your jobs need to start from events like an email, a Slack message or a webhook.
- You live on X or Slack and want to hand tasks over from there.
Pick Claude Cowork if:
- Your output is documents, spreadsheets, decks and research reports.
- You already pay for Claude and want chat, Cowork and Claude Code to share memory and plugins.
- You want local folders on your own machine in the loop.
Some businesses will use both. If you want a map for how agents fit into one system, the Agent OS guide lays it out. And if you are also weighing open-source agents, see Grok Bot vs Hermes.
Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork: small business examples
These are illustrations of how each tool's documented features map to common jobs. They are not customer stories.
A two-person accounting firm that wants a monthly client pack (a reconciled spreadsheet plus a short summary deck) would lean toward Claude Cowork. It can work from a connected local folder of exports, build the Excel file with formulas, and turn notes into slides.
A five-person marketing agency that wants one Bot watching ad spend, one researching new leads and one drafting outreach would lean toward Grok Bot. The xAI use-case page describes paid media and sales outbound roles, and the Bots can share context and hand drafts to each other, stopping at a review point before anything is sent.
A local service business that gets booking requests by email and wants a draft reply plus a calendar check every time one lands would lean toward Grok Bot, because routines can start from an email. If the same owner mostly wants a weekly report from files on their laptop, Cowork is the simpler fit.

How to test Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork yourself
- Pick one real job with a clear finish line, such as "build this week's expense summary".
- Give both tools the same inputs and the same stop point: drafts only, nothing sent.
- Check the output against the source data, line by line.
- Only then turn the winner into a skill, routine or scheduled task.

Grok Bot vs Claude Cowork FAQ
Is Grok Bot the same as the Grok app?
No. The Grok Bot FAQ says Grok and Grok Bot are two different apps, and Grok Bot signs in with a Cursor account.
Does Claude Cowork work without the desktop app?
Yes, on web and mobile for supported plans. Anthropic says local file access, browser use and computer use still need Claude Desktop open and connected.
Can either one use my own computer?
Both can, with limits. Grok Bot runs a command on your desktop only if you allow it, and asks each time by default. Cowork reaches your folders and apps through Claude Desktop, and computer use is a beta on Pro, Max and Ultra.
Which one has better security?
They take different approaches. Grok Bot hides logins through Vault and supports Ask first rules. Cowork isolates sessions and offers Manual, Auto and Skip modes.
